Why
Thetas Update & Warranty Policy is Different
on Secondhand/Used Products
We want Theta owners to be able to keep their components for a very long time.
If they dont feel that what they are buying will soon be obsolete,
they may be content to invest more in the high quality component they would
really like to have, rather than a series of less expensive compromises.
Theta products are designed, therefore, to be as "futureproof" as
possible.
The people who buy our products new support us, keep us
going. When we have updates, we try to do these at or near
our cost, in light of their support for us in their initial
purchase. We charge purchasers of used equipment at equitable
rates for these same upgrades and updates.
New equipment purchases also support Thetas dealers, who are often crucial
in making sure systems are optimized for their best performance, as well as
taking care of a lot of service and trouble-shooting. The used equipment customer
usually has no dealer working for him, so he requires more of our time. If
we did updates for subsequent owners at the prices we give for original owners,
it would simply cost us too much; we would not be able to do these updates
at all.
Our having different upgrade prices for original owners and owners of used
Theta equipment isn't to punish those who buy used components, but is to
reward those who support Theta and their dealer.
The same reasoning is behind our non-transferable warranty. We make our equipment
as durable as we can and offer generous warranties to original buyers. We
feel loyal to the people who support us.
This has been our policy since the inception of the company,
as it goes along with our commitment to providing upgrade
paths whenever possible. Prices
of used Theta equipment tend to be higher than that of other used
digital products. This may in part be because there is often
an upgrade available
to bring older units entirely up to date.
