- Press the MAIN POWER button and while THETA DIGITAL is showing, press button 3.
- Now press button 4 (VERSION) and the software version will be displayed.
- Press the A-D button to EXIT.
Download and unzip the file TDD_V203.zip.Download but do not unzip the correct v4xx file.Instead of a full update, these updates can be done with a faster Recover Front Panel only procedure, as follows:

- Turn on rear power while holding down input button “1” for about 5 seconds. You will see nothing on the front panel. The Casablanca may look dead. It is not.
- Open the TDD (Theta Digital Downloader) program.
- Connect a USB cable to the Casablanca. The computer should acknowledge the connection. If the connection is not established you must use the computer’s Device Manager to identify and select the appropriate port. Select that same port in TDD.
- Press “Connect” in TDD (Baud Rate is always 115200 now).
- Recover Front Panel box should be highlighted. Select it and find the Casablanca III HD v4xx.zip file that you need for the update.
DO NOT UNZIP THE v4.xx SOFTWARE FILE.
- Click on the zipped file once and then select “Open”.
- TDD should immediately start downloading fp.hex
- You will now see “Repaired: Must reconnect at correct Baud Rate and Upgrade for full recovery.” IGNORE THIS MESSAGE!!!
- Exit TDD.
The Casablanca will now typically be in Standby and you can come out of Standby directly. If the unit is not in Standby, turn off the rear power switch and then turn it back on to restart.
The update is now complete.

Click here to download: Theta Digital Downloader 1.47.zip – (0.2 MB)
The v316 operating system for the Casablanca III allows it to recognize the new Premium DAC (our entry level DAC card which replaces the Standard card, which is no longer in production). This new operating system also addresses an audio drop out issue with high jitter sources such as satellite television tuner, cable television tuner, DVR, PC sound card, etc.
Note that the v316 operating system is only to be used in the Casablanca III. Older units such as the CB1, CB2 and any early CB3a units that do not yet have the Dolby Pro-Logic IIx and DTS-ES installed are not compatible with the v316 operating system.
If in doubt, get your Casablanca III unit’s serial number and contact your authorized Theta Digital dealer or international representative for assistance.
-
- Download the v316 ZIP file to your Windows PC Desktop, but do not open the v316 ZIP file yet.
-
- Download the Theta Digital Downloader 1.47 software to your Windows PC Desktop.
-
- Make a serial connection to your Casablanca III from your PC, or use a USB to serial adaptor if your PC doesn’t have a serial port. Note that Theta Digital Downloader 1.47 can use any COM port on your computer between COM 1 and COM 12. Be sure to note which COM port you’re using in the Device Manager of your PC, then select that COM port in TDD when connecting in step # 5 below.
-
- Unzip the Theta Digital Downloader 1.47 file to your PC’s desktop, and double click on the Theta Digital Downloader 1.47.exe to open the program. Note that the Theta Digital Downloader 1.47 is required in order to install the v316 softare.
-
- Click on CONNECT after selecting the correct COM port noted in step # 3 above, then click on UPGRADE, then navigate to the v316 ZIP folder on your PC’s desktop. (Note that you must select the v316 folder using only the TDD program. Opening the v316 ZIP file using Windows Explorer or any ZIP program will only reveal Hex code files.) It’ll take around 20 – 25 minutes to completely install the v316 operating system software in a Casablanca III.
-
- Once the v316 operating system software installation is complete, place the Casablanca III into STANDBY mode using the front panel power button, then after 10 seconds, turn the unit completely OFF using the rear panel power button.
-
- Turn the Casablanca III unit’s rear power button to the ON position, then, using the front panel STANDBY button, turn the unit back ON.
- Go into the Casablanca III setup menu and turn on the WIDE option in the DLOCK menu for any high jitter sources (i.e. SAT, HDTV, DVR, etc.) to benefit from that more lenient input parameter and to avoid any unwanted muting issues due to high jitter. To do so, go to SETUP / INP / A-D / A-D / DLOCK and select WIDE. Note that you’ll need to set the parameter to WIDE for each high jitter source, using the Casablanca III setup menu. The factory default for DLOCK is NORMAL, and should be used whenever possible for maximum sound quality.
